Blogs matter

Following on from our discussion in class, I found a clip of Trent Lott at Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday party which created a storm of controversy and ultimately led to Lott's resignation from his position as majority leader. Watch it here (the actual comment is at 2.30). This is a perfect example of the main theme behind our class, about a story which was originally ignored by the mainstream media and would have undoubtedly gone unnoticed had it not been for outraged bloggers from all sides keeping the story alive, researching Lott, and eventually forcing the elite media to run the story.
