I started this blog back in 2004. As I've written several times before, it began as nothing more than a public place where I could practice my political writing and work out some of my thoughts and frustrations. Over time, and much to my surprise, it began attracting an audience. Seeing that, I began to hope that my writing might help inspire people to take political action. Although I originally used my name as the name for the blog, I eventually gave it a name of its own: Good People Better Rise Up! It was a call to arms. A cry for change. And yes, all you house heads out there, a nod to my life as a DJ. (Thanks, Dubtribe, for the inspiration!)
But last year the good people did rise up. And now, after some thinking, I've decided to give this place a new name, one better suited to the new fight we face.
Welcome, my friends, to The Crack Brain Zealot For Democracy
I'm going old school with this place. And by old school, I mean old school. Because although that name sounds like the name of a blog circa 2002, its actually the name given to Thomas Paine by one of his critics after the publication of a particularly strident pamphlet urging Americans on in their fight for a new system of government.
Although I know I cannot, nor will I ever, write anything even remotely approximating the power of TPaine's words, well... a guy can dream, can't he?
Speaking of which.... From Christmas Eve, 1776:

The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
